Fred and Tiffany bought this house in 2000, it was in Tiffany's words, "a total mess," but luckily the McWhorters love a good challenge. They started out small with the renovation - stripping wallpaper and carpets, adding bead board to the walls, changing out doors. A few years later they began tackling larger projects, including adding two bathrooms, remodeling the kitchen and relocating the front door from the to ground level to the main living area. The floors were stained and distressed for a vintage look . There's a story behind almost everything in the house, like the old farm sink she and Fred dragged out of a yard in Southport (with owners' blessing, of course) or the discarded Eb & Flo's bar sign she found in the recycle bin. "These stories personalize a home," she says, "and infuse it with memories."
